Rotary Wing Engineering and Asset Management (E&AM) Convergence Programme
The multiple bespoke E&AM systems across the Military Air Environment resulted in a number of similar systems in use in different areas and some significant gaps in coverage. Harmonic was tasked by the MoD to identify and analyse the space, develop a strategy, facilitate the change programme and provide programme management support.
At contract start the E&AM support picture was diverse and complex:
- Most RAF Fixed Wing aircraft and Rotary Wing fleets were supported by LITS EPMS
- The Fleet Air Arm used WRAM for Rotary Wing fleets excepting Merlin which was being migrated to EHUDS. This was being developed as a ‘paperless’ system for Merlin with integrated HUMS and IETP functions
- Army aviation was moving from paper records to a modified interim version of WRAM beginning with Lynx and Gazelle but with E&AM for the Apache undecided
Harmonic developed a programme strategy in conjunction with MoD senior managers. The delivery strategy evolved over time as individual requirements for change emerged and were developed into realisable projects, each was governed and delivered within the Convergence Programme.
Working towards the MoD objective of greater coherence in Rotary Wing E&AM solutions Harmonic examined all the options to bring E&AM to a common point thus facilitating the transition to, potentially, a single system.
- Provided Army aviation with a single system, with its associated airworthiness and safety benefits
- Brought 75% of Rotary Wing assets together, allowing the retirement of paper-based MI systems
- Promoted a common look and feel as part of a customer- and use-focused development
- Reduced the cost of owenership of the Rotary Wing fleet
